COPYRIGHT ON TV
Dresses Also Involved (Special Crspdt NJt.P.A.) LONDON, Dec 20 Copyright covers not only the songs sung on 8.8. C television, but also dresses. This was discovered by Miss Patricia Foy. a BBC producer. when she had the idea of an occasional series of "Profiles in Muse.” in which leading artists would talk of their careers and be heard in some of ’heir famous roles. She planned to have Elisabe’h Schwarzkopf in the programme and for her to sing extracts from ‘The Merry Widow” wearing her own costume. But Miss Foy discovered that under the strict copyright laws of "The Merry Widow” singers were not permitted to appear on television wearing the costumes of the show. They had to sing in evening dress and stfd still. However, because of Elisabeth Schwarzkopf s special associations with Lebar’s music, permission was given for her to wear her own costumes winch were lent by the Vienna State Opera.
