RAILWAYMEN’S UNIFORM
Change To Summer Dress Tried (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON. Dec. 20. Ten men on the station staff of the Wellington Railway Station are at present acting as ‘‘guinea pigs” to decide whether there will be a special summer uniform for guards and station staff throughout New Zealand. Instead of the blue serge coats and heavy tweed trousers, which have been the standard railway uniform the year round for a considerable time, the men are wearing a grey shirt with maroon tie and navy blue serge trousers. Several months ago a decision was made to change to caps without stiffening—regarded as much more resistant to the wind—and these are now being used generally.
