ROAD BLOCKED BY BUILDING
Bearing Breaks On Wheel (N.Z. Press Association) NEW PLYMOUTH. Dec. 20. Kapuni’s old railway sta-’ tion effectively blocked traffic for more than three hours just outside New Plymouth today. The station building was being transported along the highway when the bearings in the rear right wheel of the trailer broke as the narrow Te Henui river bridge was being negotiated. With about half the station across the bridge, and unable to go forward or back, the vehicle was stuck with the load jammed on either side of the 14ft bridge. It took more than two hours and a half before the correct spare parts could be found for the American-made vehicle. Then there was another half-hour's work by the driver. Mr P Thompson, of Wanganui, before the vehicle was able to move again. The breakdown occurred at 4.45 p.m. and it was not until 8.15 p.m. that the station was lumbering towards its destination again at a steady two to three miles an hour.
