N.Z. TEACHER SHORTAGE
No Filipino Recruits (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, December 20. A scheme to bring a few Filipino schoolteachers to New Zealand as a test to see whether teachers drawn from a surplus in that area could be used to relieve the New Zealand shortage has not received any support from the New Zealand Government. The chairman of the Auckland Education Board iMr H. Mawson) said that he had been unable to persuade the Government to give approval to the scheme, which had been put forward by his board. Mr Mawson said doubts had been expressed about the command of written and spoken English possessed by Filipino teachers.
