EFFICIENCY CHECK
New Defence Committee
(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Dec. 20. The setting up of a defence utilisation survey committee under the chairmanship of the retiring Commissioner of Works. Mr F. H. M. Hapson, to survey the use being made of all defence manpower, land, buildings and installations in New Zealand was announced today by the Minister of Defence. Mr Eyre. Other members of the committee are Captain C. C. Stevens. Royal New Zealand Navy, who will be deputychairman; Lieutenant-Colonel J Atyo, Army; Wing Commander J. J McDowell, Royal New Zealand Air Force; Mr R. M Muir, Treasury; Mr F D Stewart, Ministry of Woiks: and Mr D C Duff. Public Service Commission. The secretary will be Mr JEB Lawson, of the Air Department Mr Eyre said the committee had been asked to determine whether the most efficient use was being made of existing manpower. land, buildings, and installations, and also to recommend possible avenues for increased efficiency. In this connexion, the committee will consider the possibilities of common usage of some establishments and facilities such as storage depots, transport pools and accommodation. The committee, which will inspect service establishments throughout the country. will begin its task next month .nd is expected to make its report to the Ministe; in six months.
