Athletics AUSTRALIAN RUNNER
Lydiard Method Adopted (N.Z Press Association) ROTORUA. Dec. 13. Australian Olympic Games 800 metres semi-finalist, A. Blue, may adapt the big mileage winter conditioning work advocated by the Auckland coach, A. Lydiard. Blue announced this in Rotorua today. Blue, a doctor, who will race G. Philpott on Saturday night, said the success of Lydiard's methods was partly the reason he would make a change. “And now I have a new position at Brisbane General Hospital I will not be able to train during the day in winter. You can’t run repetition 440’s and 220’s at night. I will have to do longer work at night instead,” said Dr. Blue.
A self-trained athlete. Dr. Blue will continue to do repetition work in the spring and early season. He will train the Lydiard way in the winter.
