Three Barmaids Approved
Three hotels in Canterbury have been given approval to appoint barmaids. Mrs June Aitken, at the Prebbleton Hotel, and Mrs M. Robinson, at the Hurunui Hotel, began work as banmaids yesterday. Mrs Aitken had been manager of the Prebbleton Hotel for the last 10 years and Mrs Robinson manager of the Hurunui Hotel for the last 10 months. Mr B. Coffee, licensee of the Caledonian Hotel, Christchurch. has been given authority by the local committee of two union and two licensees’ representatives to employ a barmaid in the private bar. He has had several applications for the job.
