Delegate Sets 4|hr Record

A.-Reuter—Copyright) NEW YORK, December 6 Saudi Arabia’s chief United Nations delegate (Mr Ahmad Shukairy) established a personal record yesterday when he addressed the United Nations Special Political Committee for four hours and a half on the Palestine Arab refugee problem. He began speaking from his prepared text when the committee assembled at II a.m. and completed the marathon effort, still in good voice, at 5.45 pm. He used the luncheon recess to entertain about 60 United Nations correspondents at a luncheon in the delegates' private dining room. The speech was the longest at the United Nations since the Cuban Prime Minister (Dr. Castro) spoke extemporaneously for about the same length of time in the General Assembly last year The record for a United Nations speech is nine hours by Sir Muhammad Zafrulla Khan, of Pakistan, during a Security Council debate on Kashmir. India’s Defence Minister (Mr V. K. Khrishna Menon) addressed the council for seven hours and three-quart-ers over a number of sessions of the council on the same subjept.
