BEER AND SPIRITS
Assurance On Prices (From Out Own Reporter) WELLINGTON, Dec. 7. There should be no immediate increase in the price of spirits, either in nips or by the bottle, said the national president of the Hotel Association of New Zealand (Mr J. Ewart) tonight. “There is no thought or suggestion of any increased prices as far as spirits are concerned,” said Mr Ewart. "In any event it would have to be‘considered by the association first. “The decontrol of prices has come up so suddenly that we have not any fixed principles on it. There has been no discussion. Personally I cannot see how there could be any increase in spirits' prices in the foreseeable future.” Mr Ewart said assurances had been given to the Government that. provided excise and other duties and economic conditions remained unaltered. there would be no increase, without consultations with the Minister of Industries and Commerce, in the retail price of beer sold by the glass or in flagons. Persons who had already made advance bookings for their holidays, and others staying in hotels over the holiday period could be assured that there would be no increase in tariff, he said
