Christchurch Drivers
Sir,-i-I thoroughly agree with R. B. Harvest that the standard of driving here is appalling, but I can’t see that his solution would be workable. First, it is a negative policy. To penalise offending drivers by making them take a driving course after they have been convicted is asking for trouble. I suggest that by far the best policy is to make the driving test difficult as In the United Kingdom and to make sure that the examinee knows what he or she is doing with the car. It might also be possible to train traffic officers to treat men and women alike and not be swayed by a pretty face.— Yours, etc, D. F. DONOVAN. November 27. 1961.
