Biology Studies At Mairehau
Ten students at the Christchurch Teachers' College, who are training to be postprimary teachers and are specialising in biology, are putting into practice this week at Mairehau High School what they learned in field work at Cooper’s Creek earlier in the year. At Cooper’s Creek the students studied the flora and fauna of the area. Mr G. Conway, senior lecturer in biology and general science at the Teachers’ College, said it was an excellent area for such study since it had bush, stream, grassland and swamp. A week was spent there and bn one of the days the Students had third form pupils from the Oxford District High School with them. This week the same students will be doing a community study of the flora and fauna in Mairehau High School ares—how plants and animals live together In grassland and stream. They win be working with Form in pupils Of the school and taking classes in the normal science periods. “They will be putting into practice what they learned in field work at Cooper’s Creek,” said Mr Conway.
