An international chess tournament in Christchurch to mark the centenarv of the Canterbury Chess Club is suggested by the retiring president (Mr A. S. Hollander) in the club’s ninetyfifth annual report. “Preliminary planning would need to be started almost immediately,” Mr Hollander points out. The club's centenary year is 1966. The membership of the club is now 94, compared with 111 a year ago. Most of the decline is in schoolboy members who have left. The club’s annual meeting will be held on Friday. Trophies will be presented at the meeting to the prizewinners in the year’s competitions. The Improvers’ Cup for the greatest improvement shown during the year has been awarded to G. V. Sumner. Other prize-winners are: Championship. Senior: Sumner 1, R. D. Clarke 2. A. J. Nyman and J. A. Hunter, equal, 3. Intermediate: R. N. Weir 1, R. Mitchell 2, N. M. Cooper 3. Junior: W P. Loughton 1. E.
