Man Gaoled For Theft Of Car
(NJ!. Press Association) WELLINGTON. Nov. 27. Michael Gavin Walker, aged 21. carpenter, was gaoled for nine months when he appeared before Mr M. B. Scully. S.M.. in the Magistrate’s Court today for sen. tehee on a charge of stealing a car valued at £665. and on a further charge of theft and two charges of false pretences. Evidence was given that Walker stole the car from the sales yard of Avery Motors, Ltd.. Wellington, drove it at least 4500 miles around the North Island, then abandoned it in a battered condition. “Anyone who steals a car under circumstances such as these can expect no leniency from me," said Mr Scully. Walker’s counsel. Mr P. J. Loftus, said that his offence was the result of impulsive foolishness rather than any premeditated- plan.
