? fl Second-Half Rally (Special Crspdt. CABCASSONE. Nov. M. Staging a grand second-half rally, the Kiwi Rugby League team beat a selected Languedoc aide 15-8 today after trailing 2-6 at the intervrd. The touring team won by three goals and three tries to Langueddc’s four goals. The match, which was a little robust at times, was played In fine weather before a crowd at 6000. The Kiwis were slow in settling down though they opened their scoring in the eighteenth minute with a penalty goal by Jack Fagan. The referee dealt out a ' series of free kicks against the Kiwis, and Languedoc's second-row forward, A. Marty, kicked three penalty goals before the interval. One of them was splendidly taken from 60 yards. J. Bond, the Kiwi's fly half, received a nasty cut over the eye in the first half but kept on courageously during the ■ whole game. The manager (Mr Colin [ Siddlel said he did not think > the injury was at all serious > The New Zealanders came [ to life in the second half [ and, with the exception of I another penalty goal by J Marty, they controlled the ■ game and by the end the ’ Frenchmen were well beaten. 1 Grand work by J. Bond in J the sixtieth minute gained ! the Kiwis their first try. j Gathering the ball in his own 2 half. Bond kicked an “up | and under,” retrieved it, and } passed to A. Amer, who put b M. Cooke over by the posts.
Fagan had no difficulty with the kick. Bond was responsible for the Kiwi's second try. He took the ball in his own twenty-five, ran across the pitch, and then kicked back for G. Kennedy to touch down near the flag Fagan failed with the difficult kick. The outstanding feature of the match was the exploit of R Bailey, who, five minutes before the end. ran right through the French defence to score under the crossbar, leaving Fagan an easy kick The teams were: Languedoc.—L.
