Election Of Four Councillors
Ballot papers for the election of four councillors of the North Canterbury Acclimatisation Society have been sent out to the society’s 170 C members. Three of the councillors will represent the Christchurch city sub-district and one the Springs-EUestnere-Motukarara sub-district, but all members from every subdistrict are entitled to vote The voting closes at 1 pm on December 13, and the resrlts will be announced later that day. Two of the seven candidates are retiring councillors who are standing again. In the country sub-district, Mr G. Mugford (Ladbrooks) is seeking re-election, and he is opposed by Mr R. C. Blackmore (Lincoln), a former councillor. In the city, only Mr E. D Farmer of the three retiring councillors is up for reelection. Those not standing again are Mr P. G. Ellis, whc is chairmen of the fish committee, and Mr E. T. Hubbard. The candidates standing in addition to Mr Farmer are Messrs D. E. Ames W. J. Colquhoun, G. R Parker, and N. I. Voyce. The election is for a term of four years. The council has in all 20 members, but the other seats are not up for election this year. The annual meeting of the council will be held tomorrow.
