LORD COBHAM AT AKAROA
Civic Reception On Friday
The Governor - General (Viscount Cobham) and Lady Cobham will pay their first visit to Akaroa on Friday, when a civic reception will be given to them by the Akaroa County Council. The reception will be held in the open air, on the Britomart reserve, near where the French settlers landed in 1840. Their Excellencies will be welcomed by the chairman of the Akaroa County Council (Mr G. P. A. de Latour), Mr N. E. Kirk, M.P. and Mr T. P. Robinson, representing the Maori people. Presentations will be made to Lord and Lady Cobham by senior pupils of Akaroa District High School, and after laying a wreath on the Banks Peninsula War Memorial, his Excellency will be guest of honour at a luncheon. On their return to Christohurch, the party will stop at Little River, where an informal reception has been arranged by the Wairewa County Council. Arrangements have been made for his Excellency to open the new Little River School baths.
