Satellite City For Tokyo
TOKYO. The Japanese Cabinet has given its approval to a scheme tor the construction of a satellite government and university town, near Tokyo. The move is part of an overall attempt by Japanese authorities to stop the increase in the population in Tokyo, which is near 10,000,000. Government branch offices, research institutes, laboratories and State universities will be resited in the new city, or series of satellite cities, which the Japanese hope will be built eventually on the fringes of Tokyo. The Government is expected to be asked for 6100 million yen (£6,100,000) for the next fiscal year beginning April 1, 1962, for the purchase of land for the city.
