EMERSON BEATS FRASER
Duel For Place In Davis Cup Team f2V.Z. Press ADELAIDE, Nov. 26 R Emerson yesterday edged ahead of N. Fraser in their Davis Cup singles duel by beating him in four sets in the South Australian singles final. Emerson won. 3-fl, 6-2. 6-3, 6-2. He and Fraser are fighting for selection as singles players in Australia’s Davis Cup challenge round team, Fraser served brilliantly in the first set to take it 6-3. but Emerson returned well in the second set, which he won 6-2 to level at a set all He became more confident with his volleying and won p»e last two sets most impressively. Nineteen-year-old Miss M Smith beet the United States champion. Miss D. R. Hard. 6-4, 5-7. 6-4, in an outstanding women's singles final. Miss Smith, much taller than her opponent, played well from the baseline and for the first two seta was troubled when Miss Hard went to the net, where she excelled. In the third set. Miss Smith began lobbing when Miss Hard was at the net and this change ot tactics virtually won the match for her Miss Hard teamed with R Taylor (Britain) to beat the Wimbledon champions, F Stolie and Miss L. Turner, 4-6, 6-% 6-4, in the mixed double-' final
