ROSEHILL SPRINT
Win To French Descent (JV.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) SYDNEY, November 26. Bold tactics by the jockey, R. Selkrig. paid off yesterday when French Descent won the Flying Handicap at Rosehill. French Descent beat Friar's Peak by half a length. Another Lank was two lengths farther away, third. Selkrig won the race when he decided to maintain the pace and go to the front near the three furlongs. Dusky Oman had led to,that point, but his rider, D. Weir, decided then to give his mount a breather. Friar’s Peak was one of the slowest to move from the starting gates. At the half-mile he seemed close enough to have a good chance against the leaders. It was not until pressure was applied that Friar's Peak showed his inability to match strides with French Descent. He began to run about, throwing his head in the air. Near the finish, with Thompson riding hard. Friar’s Peak stretched out for the first time. He reduced the gap French Descent had established, but had no chance of catching him. Result:— FLYING HANDICAP, Of £1300; six furlongs. FRENCH DESCENT (Genetour—Belle Coiffure) 9-3 R.
