HECTIC KIGHT FOR DUCKS
River Carnival At Kerrs Reach A duck and her brood of ducklings spent a hectic evening on Kerrs reach on Saturday evening during the rtver carnival. Hemmed in by the crowd Uning the banka, the duck and her brood weaved along the river, dodging the speedboats. Twice, to the cry of “the duck*, the ducko,” the boats appeared to pass right over them. Each time they reappeared, bobbing in the wake. > Apparently deciding that humans were better than speedboats, the ducks made for the bank. Further down the river a duck was thought to have been killed after a boat passed over it It reappeered after two minutes, shook its feather*, and swam for the side. “An attempt had been made earlier to dear the ducks away.** said the Canterbury PubUe Relations Officer (Mr t G. Beckett). “It seemed pretty impossible.” He said speedboat drivers were told to wwtab for the ducks.
