ATHLETE WINS FIVE EVENTS

J. Aratema In Good Form (N.Z. Press Association) ROTORUA, November 6. The outstanding Rotorua 16-year-old athlete, J. Aratema, was in splendid early - season form on Saturday to win five events in a zone championship meeting in Rotorua. Aratema recorded 46ft 7in in winning the hop, step, and jump to set a new Waikato junior record. He also won the 100 yards in 10.6 sec, the 120 yards hurdles in 15.6 sec, the long jump with 22ft lin, the high jump with sft 7in and took second place in the pole vault with 9ft. A further Waikato record was made when G. Scott (Rotorua) threw 145 ft iin in the discus. J. Davies (Putaruru) won the senior mile in 4m in 17.8 sec and Miss P. Burnett (Putaruru) cleared sft 4in in the women’s high jump. Snell Wins Mile In 4min 14.7 sec (N.Z. Press Association) N. PLYMOUTH, Nov. 26. The Auckland runner P. G. Snell ran an effortless race to win an invitation mile in 4min 14.7 sec at the first sports meeting conducted by the newly-revived Ohakune Cycling and Amateur Athletic Club on Saturday. Snell led for most of the race, increasing his lead each lap to win easily by 220yds. He was second in an invitation half-mile after giving the field a start of 220yds. The winner’s time was Imin 52.55ec.
