ARRESTS IN CAIRO
Four French Officials (N Z.P. A.-Rew-er—-Copyright) PARIS, November 25. Four French officials, members of an official mission to Egypt, were arrested in Cairo on Thursday night, the French Foreign Ministry announced today. A communique identified the officials as the president OT the Commission of French Assets in Egypt, Mr Matteri, two officials of the commission, Mr Mouton and Mr Beliivier, and an official on a cultural mission, Mr Miquel. Tbe French Government was informed of the arrests by the Swiss Government, which looks after French interests in Egypt. Diplomatic relations between France and Egypt were broken off after the British and French intervention in Suez in 1956.
A French Foreign Ministry spokesman said news of the arrests had been received in Pari* with “surprise and etnotiem.” He hoped the Egyptian Government would
“reconsider a decision which nothing can explain.” It is believed in Paris that these arrests might be connected with the arrests of leading Egyptian businessmen recently in Cairo.
