PETROL TIN FOUND

Search For Rockefeller (NX J* A.-Reuter— Copyright) NEW YORK. Nov. 26. Mr Nelson Rockefeller postponed his departure for home from Merauke today pending the identification of a petrol tin of the type his son Michael had used in his attempt to swim ashore after his native boat was disabled off Dutch New Guinea's south coast last Sunday. ‘ The New York State Governor had planned to fly home from Merauke to New York by way of Manila and Amsterdam today. The Dutch servey vessel, Snellius, reported finding the numbered tin off the north coast of Fredrik Hendrik Island. The tin was being sent to Merauke for examination to determine if it was one used by Michael Rockefeller. The Dutch search coordinator, Mr Eibrink Jansen, was earlier quoted as saying: “If the tins are found at sea we will .know Michael is dead, but' if we find them on the shore we will be encouraged.” Fredrik Hendrik Island is about 100 miles south of the area where the 23-year-old American had attempted to swim to shore. The Dutch District Commissioner, Dr. F. R. J. Eibrink Jansen said earlier that the petrol tins probably would be found on the mudflat of Flamington Bay if Michael Rockefeller reached shore, and on Fredrik Hendrik Island if he did not. This was because of prevailing currents.
