Australian Rowing Crew Arrives
(New Zealand Preu Auoctatton)
AUCKLAND, Nov. 26. Representing Australia in three tests against New Zealand will be a start towards Empire Games selection for the Mosman (Sydney) Club rowing crew which arrived in Auckland by air this evening.
After three tests, the first between Australia and New Zealand for 20 years, the Mosman eight will have to win the New South Wale* State title, and the Australian title before being accepted for the Perth Empire Games. The Australian manager. Mr G. E. Mclntyre, has aimed at reciprocal tours ever since he toured New Zealand with the Haberfleld Club in 1958. ‘This Mosman crew is the
first since the war to represent Australia overseas, apart from Empire and Olympic Games,” said Mr Mclntyre. “We hope to be able to stage a return visit through the Easter regatta, which we are planning in Sydney,” he said.
Although they have "a hard row” ahead, the Australian crew has a perfect record this season. Coming together in August, it has made a clean sweep of Sydney races. Tomorrow morning, the Australians will train in a Waitemata shell.
Accompanying the eight is R. Ninham, the Australian single-scull champion, who will compete in the tests against the New Zealand Olympic representative, J. R. Hill.
