YOUTH SHOT IN HEART
Accident In Van (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, Nov. 26. A youth was killed during an opossum shooting expedition near Aria about 9.15 p.m. on Saturday. He was David Roy Ansell, aged 17, a farm hand, son of Mr and Mrs J. Ansell, of Paraheka road, Aria. Four young men had gone in Mr Ansett’s van to shoot opossums near the Waitewhena road. When the foresight of one of the .22 rifles was found to be defective, the weapon was placed in the back of the van. When the party returned later, one of the men getting into the back of the van presumably disturbed the rifle. Mr Ansell, who was in the driving seat, was shot through the heart. Mr Ansell died soon afterwards on his way to receive treatment. In the early hours of this morning a brother of the victim, travelling to Aria, was involved in an accident just north of Te Kuiti. He escaped injury, but the driver, whose name is not yet known, was taken to the Te Kuiti Hospital for treatment.
