MOVES FOR CLOSURE
Comparison Of Sessions (N2, Press Association) WELLINGTON, Nov. 24. Closure moves have been rejected by the chair 18 times out of 50 during the current session of Parliament In comparison, only one of 25 closure moves was rejected during the 1960 session. The Chairman of Committees (Mr Jack) said this in the House of Representatives this afternoon. He said it was "incorrect and grossly unfair” to suggest there was an abuse of the closure procedure. Earlier, the Leader of the Opposition (Mr Nash) gave notice of a motion deploring the frequency with which the closure had been applied
Mr Nash said be would move ext sitting day that the House “deplores the frequency with which the closure motion has been applied during this session, and regrets its use to stifle discussion on points of importance and major public interest"
