SALE OF WORK

Sewing Group Effort Thirty-five years ago a band of Christchurch women decided to raise funds to help the Anglican orphanages, and except for the war years, when they turned to sewing for the war effort, they have each year held a sale of their work. Mrs E. J. Cordner has been the main inspiration of the group, and she has kept up the highest standard of sewing throughout the period. Yesterday the bee held its annual sale at the home of Dr. H. E. W. Robertson and Mrs Robertson, and the large number of buyers found many articles suitable for Christmas gifts. Babies’ towels, face washers, work bags, table mats, spectacle cases, gardening gloves, and children’s toys all found a place on the sales table, and the total receipts amounted to £2BO.

This money will be spent on amenities for the Church of England children’s cottage home, to sponsor four children under' the Save the Children Fund, and to make a donation to Hermigor Children’s Hospital for tuberculosis cases in Austria, and for comforts for residents at homes for the aged in Christchurch.
