“PERNICIOUS” PUBLICATIONS
T ightening-u p Urged (N.Z. Press Association) NELSON. November 22. A tighiiening-up of the censorship of pernicious imported publications is urged in a remit from Nelson to be put before the annual Dominion conference of the Women’s Division of Federated Farmers in Christchurch next June. The remit, which comes from the’ Mapua-Mahana branch, was discussed by the Nelson provincial executive at its quarterly meeting. It says: “That this conference expresses concern at the manner in which pulp magazines, paper-backs, and comics which unduly emphasise sex, immorality, horror, crime, and violence are so blatantly displayed in retail shops of many types, and are made available to the adolescent section of the community. The conference asks that in the interests of young people, the Ministers of Justice and Customs be urged to review the standard of censorship relating to the above-men-tioned publications.”
