MISS FRASER’S TOUR
Cancellation Urged For Centre With both sides apparently confused over the proposed tour of New Zealand next month by the South Australian swimmers. Misses D Fraser and N. Shepherd, the Auckland Swimming Centre had been told it would be wise to abandon the tour, said the chairman of the New Zealand Amateur Swimming Association’s council (Mr A J Donaldson) in a statement last evening. “There appears to be a misunderstanding regarding visits by individual Australian States to New Zealand and it will need to be clarified by the Australian union before visits of this nature can be undertaken,” said Mr Donaldson.
"The direct approach by the Auckland centre to the South Australian association appears to have been wrong and the South Australian association’s cabled acceptance of the invitation was also wrong. This gives some indication of the confusion on both sides, and although our New Zealand association has written to the Australian union giving our official sanction to the tour we have received no further communication on this subject. "Attempts over the last 24 hours to telephone the Australian union secretary (Mr W B. Phillips) in Sydney have not been successful and it has now been suggested to the Auckland centre that under the present conditions it would be wise to abandon the tour.”
