TALK GIVEN M.R.A.
Explanation By Naval Chief (N.Z. Press Association) .DUNEDIN, Nov. 23. “I have had an interest in Moral Re-Armament for some time and receive the organisation’s publications,” the Chief of the Naval Staff (Rear-Admiral P. Phipps) said in Dunedin today. He was asked about the circumstances which led to his addressing an M.R.A. conference at Caux, Switzerland, during an overseas tour earlier this year. Describing himself as “another New Zealand citizen who looks at M.R.A. as a rising force in international affairs,” Rear-Admiral Phipps said he had told the conference that "there can be no total military disarmament without total moral rearmament.”
“While I was in England recently. I was given an opportunity of going to Caux where there was an assembly of about 1000 people, including the Prime Ministers of Burma and Japan. “I was asked to speak at the assembly and I spoke at a time when the Berlin crisis was very much in the minds of the people of Europe “I made the point that there is no military solution to international problems. The solution is one involving personal relations dictated by personal behaviour," RearAdmiral Phipps said. “I said that military thinkers throughout the world acknowledged the fact that we must eventually achieve total disarmament."
