Times Square Fire
(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter —Copyright) NEW YORK, Nov. 22. Two firemen died and 12 were injured tonight in a fire in the “New York Times” tower, from which Times square took its name. Tens of thousands of persons gathered in Broadway and 42nd street as flames shot from the upper storeys. The blaze was believed to have started in a lift shaft Hundreds of thousands of persons jammed the area to watch the spectacular blaze. Several firemen were felled by smoke poisoning and cut by flying glass, and an emergency hospital unit was set up in the street below.
