LAND VESTED IN COUNTY
Waimairi Plan For Housing
A proclamation was Gazetted yesterday vesting in the Waimairi County 24 acres of land between Waimairi and Ham roads for housing purposes. x The land will be used by the county council for a housing development, which will cost the county £BO,OOO. When all the land has been acquired, and a connecting road put through as an extension of Creyke road between Waimairi and Ham roads, the council plans to sell off 60 sections and recoup its money. To break even, the council would have to sell the sections at an average of £1333 each. Of the 14 properties involved, the council has now bought 11. The remaining three properties have a total area of more than two acres and a half. These will be acquired and compensation arrived at by negotiation or court decisions. On learning last evening that the proclamation had been gazetted, the council at its annual meeting formally let a tender for a sewerage system for the project. Mr J. I. Colligan, chairman of the council, said the firm to which the tender had been let had advised it could not begin the work until after Christmas, because of difficulty in obtaining concrete pipes. The work would take six or seven weeks to complete once it was begun.
