RAILWAYS’ WORKERS
Increases For Shift Work (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Nov. 23. Special increases in rates of pay to certain groups of railwaymen, principally en-gine-drivers and guards, as compensation for their irregular and erratic hours of work, to apply concurrently with the application of the ruling rates survey, were announced tonight from the office of the Minister of Railways (Mr McAlpine).
A section of the Enginedrivers’, Firemen’s and Cleaners’ Association threatened strike action last November if their demand for an increase in margins was not met, the announcement recalled.
