Cricket WIN FOR N.Z. XI
Motz Bowls Well
Special Correspondent A. November 17. New Zealand cricketers had the first win of their tour when they beat Transvaal Country Districts convincingly by an innings and 113 runs with three hours and forty minutes to spare in a two-day match which ended yesterday. The splendid win stemmed from fine bowling by Cameron, Alabaster, and Motz, who took three for 19 today to finish with match figures of eleven for 56. backed up by good work in the field. Chapple declared New Zealand's first innings at the overnight total of 325 for six. giving them a lead of 210 over Districts. The local side was shot out for 97 in 143 minutes yesterday. Cameron, who bowled steadily for two wickets for 17, and Motz moved the ball in the breeze and had Districts batsmen struggling. The little bright batting there was in Districts innings came from 19-year-old Tony Vorster who made 27, and Roland Lindsay with 28. Both played good strokes and between them hit 44 in 50 minutes. When Alabaster had Lindsay stumped by Dick after the batsman had taken two fours and a six off four balls the local side's total stood at 77 for six at lunch. Vorster batted a further 15 minutes after the interval before Alabaster had him stumped trying to play forward defensively against a ball that came straight through. The last four wickets fell for five runs—the final three without addition to the score. Scores:—
