HALSWELL OFFICES
County Uses Own Funds
A £7279 contract for new administrative offices for the Halswell County Council was signed at a meeting of the council yesterday afternoon. The new buildings will be paid for from county funds. The county was refused permission to borrow £6OOO by the Local Authorities’ Loans Board. A letter from Mr J. K. McAlpine, member of Parliament for Selwyn, saying that he would not ask the board to review its decision, was read at yesterday’s meeting. The contractor for the new buildings is Mr R. V. O’Connor. They will be built on the half-acre section at the corner of Sparks and Halswell roads where the present building, which has been sold to the Plunket Society, nowstands. The Plunket Society will shift the old building to the Halswell Domain.
