Four Escapers For Sentence
(N.Z. Press Association) HAMILTON, Nov. 16. An attack on two prison officers at the Waikeria youth centre, the subsequent escape of four prisoners and their career of crime during the period they were at large were discribed in the Magistrate's Court at Hamilton today. Before Mr L. M. Inglis, S.M., were the four escapees —Raymond Ted Te Aonui, aged 18. George Patrick Nathan, aged 18, Huia Mate, kino George Hansen, aged 21, and Michael Thomas Prior, aged 20—who faced a total of 65 charges. All four were remanded to the Supreme Court for sentence.
Mr K. L. Sandford said the accused attacked and injured two , prison officers, Howard Burnett Rishworth and Oliver Calhoun, and took their keys. Mr Sandford said that before the accused were recaptured they converted seven cars valued at nearly £BOOO, damaged several of them, and broke and entered houses and shops from Taupo to Kaitaia to steal food, clothes and benzine.
