PAINTING AT PORT
30 Amateurs At Course
Twenty-five: women and five men attended the oneday painting school held by the adult education department of the University of Canterbury yesterday at Lyttelton, Most of the women were housewives, some from as far away as Southbridge and Little River, and the men included a farmer from Kaikoura, who said that, now shearing was finished, he could indulge in his hobby. Using the Banks Peninsula Cruising Club as headquarters, the group found plenty of subjects for painting in both oils and water colours. There was a variety of overseas ships and coastal vessels in the harbour, most of the fishing fleet Was in, and the yacht harbour was full. Mr Frank Gross, the wellknown Christchurch artist, was the painting tutor. These one-day courses had become exceedingly popular, said the organising tutor (Mr lan Clark). The big attendance and the distance members had come showed the interest.
