THEFTS OF PETROL
Council Trucks “Milked”
Thefts of petrol from the tanks r’ the Waimairi County Council's trucks parked in its yard in Jeffreys road are causing the council concern. During one night, 20 gallons disappeared. The county engineer (Mr J. T. L. Couper) said the police had been informed on each occasion. In the meantime, he had instructed the plant foreman to have petrol cap locks fitted on the vehicles as soon as possible. He suggested that if the offences continued, it might be advisable to build a gate across the entrance to the council yard. Cr. H. J. Reynolds said he thought that the whole of the council yard should be protected to prevent illegal entry The council authorised Mr Couper to have all vehicles fitted with petrol cap locks and requested that he report to the next works committee meeting on the costs involved in putting a barrier right round the yard.
