“Church Needs Money, Manpower, And Prayer”

DUNEDIN, November 15. The three needs of the church in coming days were • manpower, money and ; prayer, said the Moderator of ' the Presbyterian General Assembly, the Rt. Rev. S. C. I Francis, today. Speaking to the assembly in Dunedin, as : it was about to rise, Mr . Francis also appealed for the I preservation and cultivation of the family spirit. . In a family, one expected i loyalty, camaraderie, free cri- ‘ ticism, and co-operation and ' with all, love—a deep caring I for one another. ’ He had noticed the same excellent family spirit in the • present assembly, Mr Francis I said. ) There was always a danger > throughout the church of > fragmentation, Mr Francis i said. They should not let , themselves build high fences t around their society, but ■ make sure what they derived s from it was for the benefit of • the whole chureh. “We may very often agree

to differ, but let us always resolve to love,” he said. Mr Francis urged ministers to take their elocution seriously. Too often it was treated as a joke, but It was far from a joke. Unless a rr.«sage was put into words that the audience could hear, It was of little use. He had no use for those ministers who proudly said they did not go on committees, said Mr Francis. It they shirked the committee load, other people had to carry a heavier burden. Of money, Mr Francis said they could not go far without it, but money surely coul/J be a spiritual thing. Money could be a true indication ot a living church.
