Apprenticeship The l of Apprenticeship was concerned at the large and growing number of Aueklanc apprenticeship contracts which required validation by the Court, Mr C. P. DoJbeL solicitor for the Department of Labour, told the Arbitration Court today. He. was prosecuting four Auckland employers for five cases of breach of the Apprentices Act. 1948. All cases involved alleged faulure by employer* to gain prior consent of the Apprenticeship Committee before employing an apprentice. Mr W. R. Thompson, secretary of the Auckland Employers’ Association. appeared for one of the defendants. He told the Court that recently his association had sent out a circular to members pointing out their obligations.
Unfortunately, he said, not all employers were members of the association. ; Employers who admitted the breaches of tihe act weje fined: Phillips and Impey. Ltd., £l5; Richard Airey, Ltd., £7 10s; Thomas Alexander Robinson, £5; Electrix, Ltd.. £2 10s on each of two charges.
