EXPORTS OF WIRE ROPE
Possibility Discussed (NJS. Press Association) AUCKLAND, Nov. 12. The new wire rope factory of Cookes New Zealand Wire Rope Company, Ltd., might later be looking for export markets, according to the assistant managing director, Mr N R. Lydster. "Whilst our obligations more directly Ue to satiety first our domestic requirements, we hope that in time we may perhaps extend further and join that select and extremely important band of local industries which enjoy an export market,” he said. “It is true that at present we must still rely upon imports for the supply of wire, our mein raw material,” he said. “But the change involved in bringing it in as wire rather than as rope can already achieve a significant saving in overseas exchange, not overlooking that the wire rope this factory produces is marketed by us at a price below that which we formerly charged for its imported equivalent.” Furthermore, he said, there was no reason why, if at a later stage an iron and steel industry was established the wire material at present imported might not also eventually be available locally.
