Hotel Office Theft (N£. Press Association) WELLINGTON. Nov. 12. A man made off with £llO from a hotel on Friday morning in one of the most audacious thefts for some time. The man called at the Panama Hot-1, Taranaki street, and asked the proprietor if he could obtain employment for a week. The proprietor, at the time in his office counting money, said he would inquire from his wife. The proprietor left the office, locking the door behind him and leaving the man standing outside the office. The money was left on the top of the desk in the office. While the proprietor was away seeking his wife, the man opened a sliding window which, it is understood, was unlocked and took the money off the desk. When the proprietor arrived back a few minutes later, he found both the man and the money gone. Tour Ends.—The British Commissioner General ,in South-east Asia and United Kingdom Commissioner to Singapore (the Earl of Selkirk) has returned to Singapore from a three-week visit to Australia, New Zealand and Fiji—Singapore, Nov. 110.
