Improper Use Of Car

fNZ Press Association) CANBERRA, November 2 The former Director of Posts and Telegraphs in Queensland, Mr E. C. Brown, has been demoted to an engineer class four after charges of improper conduct. His demotion will mean a drop of salary of £772 a year—from £3050 a year to £2878.

Announcing the demotion today, the Prime Minister (Mr Menzies) said Mr Brown had admitted charges of improperly using a Commonwealth car and with having sought the assistance of the chief investigation officer to fabricate reasons to justify the use of the car. Mr Brown had also admitted a third charge of having made false and misleading statements when asked to explain the use of the car.

The Prime Minister said that until the time the charges had been made Mr Brown had had a satisfactory record of service.
