DESTROYED PAINTS

Spectacular Blaze

(N_Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, Oct 29.

Fire destroyed thousands of pounds’ worth of highlyinflammable bituminous materials in a spectacular blaze at the Neuchatel Asphalte Company, Ltd, in Halsey street, Auckland, about 3 pun yesterday. Firemen, boots sticky with bitumen and aluminium paint bad the blaze under control within half an hour. More than half of a large open building used as a combined store and factory for making bituminous paints and compounds was almost destroyed. The cause of the fire had not been established today. The damage was estimated today by Mr H. L. B. Garrett, manager for the New Zealand firm, at “something more than £5OOO and probably not more than £10,000.”
