SPACE WAR FORECAST
U.S. General’s Warning (HZ. Press Assn.—Copyright) DETROIT, October 27. The United States would be “very naive" If it did not expect and prepare for a war In space, the United States Air Force Chief of Staff (General Curtis Lemay) said last night Urging a United States space capability st the “earliest practicable date” to combat any surprise Soviet advances, he said in a speech: "Tomorrow’s space systems may use an altogether new kind of armament. “Perhaps they will employ principles we haven’t yet discovered—and won’t discover until we get into space and learn in detail about the environment," he said. "Perhaps they will be weapons that enable us to neutralise earth-based intercontinental ballistic missiles. “Perhaps they will be weapons that strike with the speed of light," General Lemay said. “War in the future may be waged and decided without a weapon being applied against an earth target. Space capabilities may bring about the technological disarmament of nuclear weapons. It may also remove major wars from the surface of the earth."
