SATURDAY SALES AT HANMER
Two Shops To Seek Permission Two Hanmer Springs shops, both dealing in grocery and general merchandise, will anply to the Shoos and Offices Exemptions Tribunal early next month for permission to remain open from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays and all public holidays except Good Friday. Anzac Dav. and Christmas Day. The applications take the form of. requests for exemption from certain provisions of the Shops and Offices Act. 1955. In the application of one of the firms. WatersMore, Ltd., the grounds are that an exemption would be in the public interest as the public would be better served. Hanmer Springs has very many week-end residents, visitors and tourists, who require to purchase a wide range of goods on a Saturday morning and on public holidavs, the application says. The application of the other firm, Arthur Read. Ltd., gives similar reasons for the request.
