GIFT DAY AT CHURCH

£229 Contributed At Phillipstown

The sum of £229 Us 2d from 89 envelopes was received by the vicar of the Church of the Good Shepherd, Phillipstown, Linwood (the Rev. J. F. B. Keith) during a gift day for the church’s restoration on Saturday. Sixty - eight persons brought their envelopes and neighbours’ contributions to Mr Keith, who received the gifts from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the church.

One hundred and seventy envelopes were given during last year’s collection day, bringing in £227. This year’s contribution included two cheques, one for £5O and the other of £lO.

More envelopes are expected within the next few days. Last year a further £BO came in. making the final figure £3OO.

The money has been earmarked for repairs to the roof and the replacement of 50 broken stained glass window panes as well as drainage and repainting the church hall. Last week-end also marked the seventy-seventh anniversary of the dedication of the church, which has yet to be completed. A north transept will be built as the money becomes available.
