Paper Bed Sheets Are Innovation

I By

ZALIA THOMAS]

LONDON, October 23. Everyone is familiar with sheets of papers, but paper sheets are an innovation.

Shown for the first time at the recent London nursing exhibition, these full-size, disposable bed sheets, costing less than 3d—considerably less than laundering ordinary cotton sheets—are made from a new non-woven textile fabric. They are strong, yet soft and surgically clean to ensure maximum protection from cross-infection. Also on show at the exhibition was a new cough suppressant which acts directly on the “cough centre” of the brain and raises the threshold above which incoming stimuli trigger off a cough. It is especially useful in providing the patient with a good night’s sleep free from coughs and is non-toxic, nonhabit forming and can safely be given to adults and children.

New, too, is a preparation in tablet form claimed to be the first specific treatment for cerebral sclerosis. It can

be used in the three stages of this condition and the manufacturers say: “In two out of three cases the removal of symptoms such as headaches, dizziness, lack of concentration, lethargy, loss of memory and confusional states leading to depression and irritability can be very gratifying.” The preparation is claimed to be perfectly safe and the side-effects are minimal.
