Questionnaire For Schools

The New Zealand Cricket Council will send a questionnaire to all associations to find out how the game is faring in the schools under their control.

Mr J. A. Ongley (Central Districts) told Saturday’s meeting of the council’s board of control that one of the main recommendations in the 1958 board’s report on school cricket was that clubs should be asked to sponsor cricket for primary schoolboys on Saturday mornings. This and other recommendations should not be overlooked, said Mr Ongley, and the council should ensure that something was being done about them.

The Wellington, Auckland and Hutt Valley associations are not following the recommendation that top secondary schools’ sides should be able to play against club teams in the top open grades. The council was asked by Mr K. L. Sandford (North Island minor associations) to seek ideas from associations on how to increase the appeal of cricket in the schools. He mentioned the certificate system as an incentive in school swimming.
