Research Work In Antarctic (N.Z. Press Association) SCOTT BASE (Ross Island). October 20. Motor toboggans fitted with skis and which when fully loaded have a speed of five . lies an hour, are being used to transport the supplies of a party of four Americans and two Englishmen carrying out investigations of glaciers on the western side of the Ross Ice Shelf. The leader of the six-man party, the Cambridge-born glaciologist. Dr. C. W. Swithinbank, of the University of Michigan, is now spending his sixth summer in the Antarctic. He has already spent two winters here, and four summers in the Arctic. His work this season will take him to the biggest valley glaciers on the western side of the Ross Ice Shelf.
